tune out the static sound of the city that never sleeps

writing prompt: chose a saying and write something about it

tune out the static sound of the city that never sleeps – (don’t know who said this – found on tumblr)

the city that never sleeps. the buzz is always in the air. the sound of cars. the sound of people shouting to one another. the sound of everything keeps on playing in the background of days and nights spent here. tall buildings surround the one that i currently reside in. they block out the beauty of the night sky that i’ve always loved. here in the city, even away from the tall skyscarper building, you aren’t able to see the stars. what use is it of living so high of the ground, to not even be able to see part of the night sky? it’s different from the place i left behind. growing up by fields of grass, and tiny houses scattered along. with few places to shop, and an infinite amount of places to explore around. now, here i am by the busy streets surrounded by buildings all around. it’s different to say the least, and while i do enjoy some of the perks, i miss the quiet. i don’t want to here the sound of cars racing by, and people all along the streets. i want to listen to the night. i want to hear the crickets. i want to hear the occasional car drive by after an adventurous day outside. i want to listen to the silence of the world. so just for tonight, i’ll lay here with my covers tight around me and hands over my ears. i want to hear the quiet again. i want to hear my own thoughts and not those that are said aloud. i want to tune out this static sound of the city that never sleeps.
